The dream of winning the Nobel Prize was shattered (I am not joking) as soon as I entered the B-school. Motto of any B-school seems to be creating jack of all trades and master of none. Calling it a masters’ program is adding insult to the injury. Too many subjects and too short a time, can’t even be a master in JLT.
But there is no regret; Nobel Prize is not such a great thing. Selectors of Nobel Prize are conservatives they nominated Sigmund Freud under the category of fiction (literature). They could neither accept nor reject him. Freud being one of the thinkers who changed the way we think and act, the only other comparable greats are Darwin and Marx. It is understandable that the selectors could not give the Prize to Darwin and Marx because the award itself was established only after their death. But in case of Freud, they have reduced the important of the Prize by not giving to Freud, and muddied it by treating him as story teller.
The legend has it that Alfred Nobel strictly instructed that no Nobel Prize should be given under the category of Mathematics. His hatred for mathematics was not because he was a poor student in Maths, it is due to personal reason, his wife ran away with a mathematician.
So I should forget about Nobel Prize on moral ground and start concentrating on Oscar Award. Hope there are no moral issues as far as Oscar is concerned. First, I have to find out whether they give award for watching films. If it is so, then I will have a real chance of winning it soon.
How do you prove you watch films? You recomend them to students or distribute DVDs to them. Then the students will ask "what is the latest 'Sir' 'Father' oh! No. everything not but nonsens IS nonsense!
