Punch Dialogue

I think you know what it means (refer the post on rules and regulations). In reality, it is not only Rajinikanth who delivers punch dialogues but also many corporate and academic institutions. Of course they call it either vision statement or mission statement, basically they are punch dialogues.

IIPM’s punch dialogue is “Think beyond IIMs”, often I wonder are they advertising for their institute or for IIMs? In fact it is a ‘reverse punch dialogue’ means getting punched by one’s own dialogue. The other corporate that was punched rather heavily was Tata, when they came up with the slogan “We also make steel”. Till then it was nearly impossible to steal the technical experts from Tata by other steel making companies. This slogan offended their sensitivity to some extent; they preferred to work for other who are serious about making steels and proud of doing so.

Our institute also has a punch dialogue, “Management with Humane Face”. It is a real punch, because indirectly we say that other institutes have some different kind of face. But now we seem to be receiving punches. When a punitive action was taken against a staff for his misdeed, instead of defending himself his first reaction was how can an institute with humane face administer this kind of punishment?

Faculties use this dialogue for anything and everything. Even if there is no sugar in the tea, they say how can an institute with humane face forget to put sugar?

Very recently, when some students were taken to task for lower CQPI, they were dismayed and in utter surprise asked, “How can an institute with humane face, even think of doing this?”

I think our punch dialogue has become truly the ‘reverse punch dialogue’. It is time to come up with new one. Any suggestions?

  1. I don't think I am competent enough to give suggestions for the punchline. But I have following observations regarding the current punchline and its "Side Effects":

Human face does not mean human heart. Even though if it means the same, the same human being posses both extremes of emotions e.g. love & hatred. As far as emotions are concerned it also exists among animals. What differentiates us substantially from animals so as to be called human is the capability to take "wise*" decision, which is enabled by a highly developed* brain, the capability of abstract reasoning, language, introspection and problem solving.
So an institute with human face can take human like (logical) decisions.
